JOURNEY -

On completion of his masters degree, he started looking around for a job.But in the meanwhile, keeping the creativity channel in him open, he continued to write as well as do stage plays.Having arrived on the music scene more than two decades ago and still holding on to his seat, the credit of taking PUNJABI music from regional level to natinal and then on to the international level absolutely goes to Gurdas Maan.

Maan prefers the absence of the word Bhangra in any description of his output, favouring more ambitiously vague descriptions such as adventurous, imprvised music. In its unadulterated form, it's expertly performed material, delving into propulsive, mediative and folksy spaces.Maans pieces are often frayed around the edges, but with little discord. It's fresh-sounding stuff worthy of investigation by those who feel they've heard it all before.
